Yes, they are all female, which isn’t unique in itself, but the fact that the four women that comprise Bulletproof Stockings are Chasidic Jews and the world’s first all-female Chasidic rock band at that precludes them from singing or dancing in front of other Jewish men in accordance to kol isha. Their shows are meant to serve as a safe place for women to sing, dance and enjoy their music without prejudice. ►

As the year comes to an end, so does the band known as As Tall As Lions, playing their last two shows ever in Los Angeles before sold-out crowds at The Teragram Ballroom. It was a bittersweet final night that doubled as a reunion and farewell tour, bringing some fans to tears, while others — some who traveled from across the country — were overjoyed just see their favorite band one last time. The group will play its final two shows back in their hometown of New York. ►

Santa, aka lead singer Matt Caughthran immediately went into the crowd while the remaining members of the band stayed on stage. Caughthran then told fans: “It’s time to fuck Santa up.” With those words, the band kicked into high gear as the crowd formed a circle around Caughthran and obliged his request. Caughthran remained in the pit for the set, getting up close and personal with the fans while periodically quenching his thirst with cans of PBR. Yet, no one dared sit on Santa's lap. ►

The high-energy on stage also included some high-flying acrobatics by trombonist/vocalist “Flyin Jay” Jay Armant, who demonstrated for the crowd that proper crowd surfing starts with the stage dive. After getting a running start, Armant launched himself into the crowd and was passed around like a sandbag before being dropped back on stage ►

For some, it was one of the many many times to hear one of their favorite bands again. While for others, it was a chance to see one of the groundbreaking alternative rock bands live for the first time. Regardless of the motives that brought concertgoers out to The Teragram Ballroom to see The Psychedelic Furs, it was a night to sing along and witness legends of the British post-punk scene. ►
