The anticipation was high for English darlings Hot Chip at the intimate El Rey last evening as lucky fans packed the venue. Touring ahead of latest release, A Bath Full of Ecstasy, the band debuted several new songs while mixing in plenty of favorites with a twist.

Hot Chip’s indie electronic hits kicked off a joyous dance party that began to take shape with “One Life Stand,” “Over and Over” and “And I Was a Boy From School.”

The band briefly addressed the audience during new song “Spell,” jokingly saying it was for “anyone who’s had a shitty time at the Magic Castle.”

A sweet and sunny version of the popular “Ready for the Floor” closed the main set.

The encore pushed the night into overdrive with a rousing, crowd-pleasing cover of “Sabotage” by the Beastie Boys.

Hot Chip returns to L.A. on September 27 at the Shrine Expo Hall.
