MAGGIE ROGERS + MELANIE FAYE @ THE FONDA THEATRE
Photos and recap by Leslie Kalohi
On the eve of her major label debut Heard It in a Past Life, Maggie Rogers had one hell of a celebration at The Fonda Theatre. Armed with a blue cowboy hat, white feather boa, and a hefty bottle of champagne, Rogers was fiercely exuberant as she made her grand entrance to the stage. The singer-songwriter confidently and quickly proved herself a polished performer.
It has been an incredible two and a half year journey towards the release of her album, as Rogers continues to dominate the music scene. With Saturday Night Live and arena shows already under her belt, it is only fitting that she tackles subjects such as sudden celebrity on her new record. The packed venue was full of fans singing along to every word of the new material in addition to previously released singles “Alaska” and “On + Off.”
Newly transplanted to Los Angeles from Nashville, Melanie Faye put out an open call for a roommate who wouldn’t deny her from playing the guitar. During Faye’s impressive opening set, the talented guitarist was able to make her instrument soar through cover songs while also imparting her gentle, feathery light vocals on other tracks. Known for amazing viral videos, Faye’s prowess with her guitar was simply amazing to experience in person.
