Although UK’s Slaves was supposed to play their first ever LA gig at The Echo back in December, drumming singer Isaac Holman had dislocated his shoulder and there was sadness. Slaves is currently doing a little mini tour supporting Wolf Alice this time around in the States, but sans any formal shows on the West Coast. Luckily, Dirty Laundry hosted a very small industry showcase that turned out to be far better than expected. No suits standing around like statues (well, a few on the sides). But fans were there in front and letting Slaves know they were very happy to have them play. Many requests were shouted out from their extended album Are You Satisfied?. Guitarist Laurie Vincent (who is also a talented visual artist) didn’t have a lot of room to move around, but he managed well. Remember, it’s healthy to sleep naked. Please come back soon.

Alex Brindle Johnson (aka Alex Wonk) of Wonk Unit took the stage to play a few songs beforehand. Wonk is good friends with Slaves and it just so happened that Wonk and his fiancée were in LA just to get hitched. When they found out their friends were playing here in LA, it was sweet timing.
