Good friends and stellar bands Thee Oh Sees, Fuzz and Wand got together to play two consecutive nights at The Teragram Ballroom for the Holiday Homeless Charity Event, a benefit for L.A. Kitchen. The man who gets this show together every year is John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees and it was no surprise that both shows sold out.
Wand is on the rise and when you hear them live, it’s kind of mind blowing. The layering and transitions are beautiful. Cory Hanson didn’t have his shirt on backwards and his fly was zipped, but the crowd wouldn’t have noticed otherwise because the music put us in a dreamlike state.
The time had come for Thee Oh Sees with Dwyer, his double trouble drummers Ryan Moutinho and Dan Rincon and bassist Tim Helman all at the edge of the stage with a wall of sound that had fans flying all over the room. “I Come From the Mountain” immediately had fans smashed against the stage. The set was just too damn short.
Ty Segall (vox/drums), Charlie Moothart (guitarist/vox) and Chad Ubovich (bass) were together again to take the late spot this first evening with Thee Oh Sees switching time slots on the second. Either you were dancing, crowd surfing, moshing a little or at least wanted to as Fuzz delivered so many memorable songs.
