DEAP VALLY + LIPHEMRA @ BASIC FLOWERS

Deap Vally threw a pretty sweet release party at Basic Flowers in downtown LA for their new song “Royal Jelly.” Attendees checked out art installations made by Rachel McCollum (Milo) while video projectors played the “Royal Jelly” music video featuring model Georgia Jagger. A photo contest booth was setup with props available for people to use in their Instagram posts.
Everyone then gathered in the back room as the Deap Vally played their electrifying brand of bluesy garage rock while the folks at The Blind Spot Project displayed a colorfully psychedelic light show onto the stage. The set started off with a minor hiccup as Lindsey Troy’s string broke on her guitar, but once she got it fixed the crowd really got into it. Expecting mom Julie Edwards didn’t let her pregnancy get in the way of drumming, although she admits this will be her last for a while. DJ Lauren Fay assisted on percussion. Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist Nick Zinner joined in for a song. Zinner is producing the duo’s follow-up album due out sometime in 2016. White Lung lead singer Misha Way also belted out a few vocals, which is not surprising since Troy has filled in as bassist for White Lung. They closed it out with, of course, “Royal Jelly.”
Liphemra entertained the early attendees with a short and sweet performance of her intriguing and eclectic music.
