A “new kid on the block” has risen on the other side of the 110 freeway west of DTLA. The Teragram Ballroom, L.A.’s newest concert venue and former silent movie theatre, was anything but silent the night of its grand opening. Spoon, indie-rockers led by Britt Daniel, christened the new space with a sold out performance, selling out the Wiltern Theatre the night before. With his guitar lifted high in the air, they performed a selection of new songs from their latest endeavor They Want My Soul. The band opened with “Rainy Taxi,” played “Satellite” which debuted earlier this year, and finally dove deep during the encore playing “Everything Hits at Once.” Sonically, Spoon was spot on throughout their set and The Teragram provided amazing sight-lines and acoustical treatment no matter where you found yourself in the 600 person capacity venue.

Sweet Spirit, led by an energetic and occasionally possessed-looking Sabina Ellis were technically the first band to ever perform at The Teragram. The 9-piece band seemed to take up every square inch of the stage, but their bluesy-rock sound shined throughout their set.
