The Kopecky Family Band hit the Troubadour Friday night like a fantastic high energy tornado of instruments and folkish indie rock. At one point, the non-traditional family passed out tambourines to the crowd. Leaving no one unsatisfied, Gabe Simon (vocals, guitar, and horns) and Markus Midkiff (cello, guitar, and keyboards) bounced back and forth on and off the stage adding to the flurry of upbeat musical goodness. But it was Kelsey Kopecky (vocals, keyboards, and bass) who showed us the perfect beautiful eye at the center of the tornado, stopping the room for the only ballad of their set, “Change” off of their album Kids Raising Kids.
Kicking things off, Avid Dancer (Jacob Summers) used his hypnotic voice to take us to a place where a little bit of rock and a little bit of blues make a whole lot of passion.
