Jupiter Black and the enigmatic Tre Seoul team up here on a song and visual that’s spook-blime. Jupiter is either cursing or blessing a wayward youth, played by the stoic Sistergrass. Tre exists in a visual vacuum, a man apart observing and reporting but never retorting, letting Jupiter do the work of possessing folk. Their verses are pure syrup, delivered like sorbet melting in the sun—drip drip. VIDEO PREMIERE: BLACKSEOUL (JUPITER BLACK + TRE SEOUL) “BOLD”

April 22nd, 2020 | News

This sounds like a spaghetti western set in 2060 where a sentient bean is president and niggas run congress. It sounds like a call to arms and a warning to the infantry: stay high but carry a big stick.

The video builds to a cliffhanger, a visual dependent clause that suggests there’s more than meets the eye. Director Kellen Malloy here uses stillness to ratchet tension, minimalist set dressing and eerie lighting to suggest a hell only Moby would love. (Cuz of the minimalism.)

Bold indeed. It’s lovely and you deserve to see it.
