VIDEO PREMIERE: HAMMERED SATIN “PLANET BOOGIE”
Hammered Satin‘s 2019 full-length Velvet Vortex (Dead Beat) was a deeply loving valentine dedicated to the longhair mid-70s bands who kept the flame of rock ‘n’ roll burning (often with generous bursts of pre-ozone-safe hairspray) in that cloudy time between the collapse of prog and the explosive birth of punk. The Sweet, Mud and Slade, helped define this sound, but Hammered Satin like to prowl around in the underground where all-but-forgotten no-hit-heroes like Hector, Captain Groovy and his Bubblegum Army and of course the mighty Iron Virgin left treasure to be recovered fifty years later.
“Planet Boogie” is their enthusiastic salute to the spirit of T. Rex, whose Marc Bolan loved stars and Mars as much as he loved to boogie, visualized with some dizzy 70s-late-night-cable prism effects in this video filmed and edited by longtime Satin associate Logan Feser, with additional filming by Ant Boyd. That’s a cheerfully delirious representation of the Hammered Satin experience—now augmented by Don Bolles (of the Germs / Ariel Pink / and prior glamifiers Fancy Space People) on genre-perfect guitar as well as drummer Victor Penalosa, late of the Flamin’ Groovies—and you can get smashed by the hammer yourself at one of three blow-out shows next month—graphically ecstatic flyers below!
