Not From England are actually pretty enthusiastic about musicians from England—this is not a "We Don't Need The English" situation—and you'll hear some of that in their Manchester-adjacent amen-break drumbeat and in those bluntly charismatic vocals that lift a little of Primal Scream's swagger. (And of course there's some Sonic Youth in that shock-you-awake intro, too.) This intensely motivated teenage quartet—guitarist/vocalists Cass Blum and Leo Blumenfield plus bassist DeRon Munroe and drummer Beckett Pasdar—started with home demos in the summer of 2018 and graduated to a 2019 EP recorded with FIDLAR drummer Max Kuehn, which is where "Interrupted" comes from. VIDEO PREMIERE: NOT FROM ENGLAND “INTERRUPTED”

January 31st, 2020 | News

Despite the name, L.A.’s Not From England are actually pretty enthusiastic about musicians from England—this is not a “We Don’t Need The English” situation—and you’ll hear some of that in their Manchester-adjacent amen-break drumbeat and in those bluntly charismatic vocals that lift a little of Primal Scream’s swagger. (And of course there’s some Sonic Youth in that shock-you-awake intro, too.) This intensely motivated teenage quartet—guitarist/vocalists Cass Blum and Leo Blumenfield plus bassist DeRon Munroe and drummer Beckett Pasdar—started with home demos in the summer of 2018 and graduated to a 2019 EP recorded with FIDLAR drummer Max Kuehn, which is where “Interrupted” comes from.

The video (directed and conceptualized by Lucy Blumenfield, the sister of guitarist/vocalist Leo Blumenfield who also shot many of NFE’s portraits—and some live photos for L.A. RECORD) plays counter to the song, starting out with a sedate and proper banquet and disintegrating into cheerful disarray as “Interrupted” picks up momentum. That’s by design, explain the band:

“‘Interrupted’ is about feeling overwhelmed and feeling like the world can be too much sometimes, and about having all these chaotic ideas and feelings. We tried to capture this chaos in the music video. The music video has a organized almost cult-like vibe in the beginning, almost like the face we put on the outside, but as the video goes on, it becomes chaotic and shows who we truly are inside.”

“Interrupted” lives on their Kick Me Down To Dead Horse EP, out now on Burger—get it here! And NFE has a streak of local shows set up, starting tomorrow at the Observatory in OC for Blivet Bash. More info below!
