VIDEO PREMIERE: NYXE “PISCES MOON”
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to firstname.lastname@example.org.
L.A.’s Nyxe and director Lexie Alley made this intensely symbolic video that’s directly plugged in to the fundamental forces of nature—fire, water, light and darkness, of course. And it was even filmed on the night of that January lunar eclipse to add yet another source of power. Between Nyxe’s unsparing musical clarity (check out the Spotifyography here) and Alley’s unwavering focus on her subject, “Pisces Moon” is almost more like watching a ritual than a simple music video. (Or at least like watching some undiscovered Kenneth Anger project.) The whole project was something of a reawakening or rebirth, too, says Nyxe:
“‘Pisces Moon’ is the first track of mine that I wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed by myself. I’m an old soul but a late bloomer so it felt good to have faith in my abilities for once. The song itself emerged after a long meditation with a candle I got on a full moon last autumn and the video was filmed on the super blood moon in January of this year. Of course, the candle guest stars in the video and frankly it did a stellar job. Lexie Alley directed the video and I am so grateful to have worked with such a kind visionary. We got to witness a blood red eclipse before rising together out of the freezing waves of the Pacific and she nailed the calm power that I felt writing the song. It feels appropriate that this song and video have moved in cycles like the moon, reminding us that everything waxes and wanes.”
