TRACK PREMIERE: THE AGGROLITES “POUND FOR POUND”
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to fortherecord@larecord.com.
It’s been too long since L.A.’s Aggrolites had something new for the world. They never disappeared, of course, as anyone who hit any of their New Year’s shows at Alex’s Bar can attest. But now they’ve got an agonizingly long-awaited new studio full-length just about ready—their first since 2011—and it’s quite appropriately titled REGGAE NOW! After a much-needed breather, they’re rested and ready and raring to go—and their new “Pound For Pound” is the proof. It’s three scorching minutes of classic Studio One-style reggae that serve as a reminder of what the Aggrolites do best, and didn’t you miss them for it? (Record collectors sure did—the Aggrolites’ prior albums are going for a couple bucks online.) Says singer/guitarist Jesse Wagner:
“Though we never left, we took our time these past eight years. Now the Aggrolites are recharged and back with vengeance. We are back to hitting the road hard this summer with our latest full-length album REGGAE NOW! Like always our mission is to spread the word of “Dirty Reggae” to the masses young and old. As our single ‘Pound For Pound’ lyrically states: ‘It’s gonna be strong when you wait that long for the Aggro sound.’ This is for sure a true statement that leads us right back out the gates and ahead in the race sharing the music that we’ve put our blood, sweat, and tears into over the last 15 years. From tuff to sweet, its for sure unique and REGGAE NOW! most definitely holds its own ground. ‘Pound for pound that old Aggro sound will make ‘em come around.'”
