VIDEO PREMIERE: MOUSEY “BITCH”
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to fortherecord@larecord.com.
Mousey McGlynn isn’t shy, despite her first name. She’s at the vanguard of the vanguard of L.A.’s next-wave beat scene, part of the percolating Beat Cinema collective, a rare singer-beatmaker in a murderers’ row of talented knob-twisters. Today she releases the video for ‘Bitch,’ a soothing-yet-scathing agglomeration of jarring scenes indicting the 4chan faithful. With her signature Diana Krall-meets-Debbie Harry delivery, she doesn’t mince words. The first lyrics are literally ‘he’s being a little bitch again.’ So … get into it. The song was co-produced by the bombastic Coby Ashpis, the faux-instructional and forward-thinking video created with Berlin-based mixed-media artist Protey Temen. Mousey says:
“I’m conflating anti-terrorist imagery with the imagery from the incel community, and putting a bow of internet voyeurism on top. I hate that subculture, and how it dehumanizes women so very much.’
You can find more of her here, and catch her regularly at Beat Cinema shows at Apt. 503 in Koreatown.
