VIDEO PREMIERE: MOISTURE BOYS “TO HOP WOO, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING MY G” (PLUS BONUS EP!)
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Moisture BOYS is the duo of Tolliver (also an L.A. RECORD contributor!) and Ramiro Zapata of L.A.’s limit-breaking Jesus Makes The Shotgun Sound, and their new “To Hop Woo…” video is the definition of a slow burn. It’s an understated and unpredictable dark-night-of-the-soul song suspended between hallucination—or imagination—and stark reality, literalized in this white-box video where everything comes to life to sing and dance. (Credit to director/costumer Amanda Kramer, DP Patrick Meade Jones and production designer/editor/costumer Noel Taylor for making so much out of such minimalism.) Says Ramiro:
“It’s a song about hiding away from the day to day nightmare of scraping by, and taking in the moments of joy so rarely afforded to us; weekends spent on a friend’s floor far from home and responsibility, actually having the time to reflect on the decisions we’ve made for the past year … and vomiting in alleys.”
Moisture Boys will premiere this video in actual life tonight—Thurs., Jan. 10—at 9 pm at Full Screen Mode at the Semi Tropic in Echo Park. And as a special bonus—because Moisture Boys always give you more than you ever expected—they’ve also unveiled a surprise new four-song EP called Today, 6:00:48 PM—it’s exactly 18 hours old and it’s waiting for you below!
