Explosive locals Cat Scan finally have a debut album set to release, and it’s not a second too soon. Live, they’re like the Suburban Lawns performing with set-on-fire intensity, and the new “Dirty Movie” captures that frantic/ferocious energy perfectly. It’s like Dangerhouse’s Deadbeats playing at Dead Kennedys velocity, or Pylon if they’d been one of the early South Bay bands. California has a great tradition of this kind of revelatory razor-sharp art-punk, and Cat Scan fit in perfectly. After all—what’s a cat scan but a machine that shows you real guts? Cat Scan has a bunch of local shows on deck, too, starting with a double-header at Echo Park Rising and culminating in a record release at the Hi Hat.
