TRACK PREMIERE: FELL RUNNER “SAME WAY”
If you are an L.A.-area musician who would like to submit unreleased songs or videos of any genre for premiere, email a stream or download link to fortherecord@larecord.com.
L.A.’s Fell Runner are a cluster of CalArts alums (including L.A. RECORD featurees Gregory Uhlmann and Tim Carr) whose exuberantly experimental indie rock is the kind of music that materializes when every instrument is in an inspired conversation with every other instrument. It’s crackling with a stop-start energy that’s the sonic equivalent of ” … and you won’t believe what happened next!” Their coming sophomore full-length Talking (out Fri., June 14, on YES PLZ—get it here!) is an exploration of the nature of interpersonal communication, and this track “Same Way” is “about trying to be present for people in your life that have different needs than your own,” they tell us. It’s a characteristically exhilarating track that starts like a pop version of a Pop Group post-punk song then happily collapses into a fractured rock riff like an exploded diagram of the chorus to a Queen song, and then it turns inside-out again for a deliriously hypnotic jazz guitar section. They start a quick west coast tour tonight but they’ll be home for their record release show at the Bootleg on Wed., June 19—get tickets here! Full dates below.
