James V is back with "Blondie," a characteristically unpredictable—is that synth tuba?—slab of jiggly-as-Jello funky new wave AOR. A lot of adjectives? Yes, but a lot going on here, as with all of James V's mutant maximalism, this time in service to a song quite possibly about heartbreak that's struggling to cut through waves of transgalactic pandimensional interference. L.A.’s enigmatic James V is back with “Blondie,” a characteristically unpredictable—is that synth tuba?—slab of jiggly-as-Jello funky new wave AOR. A lot of adjectives? Yes, but a lot going on here, as with all of James V’s mutant maximalism, this time in service to a song quite possibly about heartbreak that’s struggling to cut through waves of transgalactic pandimensional interference. (Naturally, it includes the lyric “Blondie … call me.”) Like James V’s earlier work, this was mixed by De Lux’s Sean Guerin, and in another instance of medium-is-the-message perfection, this happily wavy/wobbly song will be out on a flexi disc this April via Marriage Records and Gnar Tapes. (Get the digital here, and pre-order here!) L.A. RECORD readers might also recognize the artwork from frequent amazing contributor Bijou Karman, spotted recently in the magazine here. James V will be playing and bringing his video for “Tired Of Woman” to Non Plussed Fest on Friday at the new Non Plus Ultra, with several dates to follow, as well as an interview and radio premiere on KXLU’s The Witching Hour tomorrow at ten.
