TRACK PREMIERE: AVALON “DOWNHILL TOGETHER”
Avalon is the Santa Ana-to-L.A. producer/singer/songwriter/polyinstrumentalist/video director whose cover of Hole’s “Doll Parts” made it on to Tricky’s last album. She’s also a painter, as well as a Beach Goth fest vet, and now she’s about to add another accomplishment to her long list of accomplishments with her coming vinyl debut on Collapsing Scenery‘s Metropolitan Indian. “Deadbeat Boy” is affecting and melancholy pop but “Downhill Together” is a dreamy downer with an understated melody from classic indie outfit Polvo soaked in lo-fi atmosphere and cut through with stark digital rhythm and Avalon’s distant vocals. It’s part slo-mo 90s deep cut (like Mazzy Star or the Pixies when they’d get tragic) and part intimate home recording, a song that draws power from its quiet and its negative space. Connect with Avalon here and look for vinyl soon.
