Last April Don Bolles was put in custody for carrying soap in Orange County, and the incident only heightened the musician’s already stellar reputation as a tortured oddity and relative genius. As such, he identified a mighty need in the L.A. scene: Raw Power Rangers, a tribute band for the Iggy and the Stooges’ album Raw Power, since the original frontman no longer performs any of these songs himself. The lineup includes Dave Arnson (of the Insect Surfers) on vocals as Iggy Pop, Dan Valentie (of the Insect Surfers and Boardwalkers) on guitar as James Williamson, Mark Hoeschler on bass as Ron Asheton, and the Bolles (Germs, 45 Grave and Celebrity Skin) on drums as Rock Action. I could give two shits what Bolles is exfoliating with, as someone tells me where the man is buying those hats. (JG)
