SUNDAY, SEPT. 16:

The first time I saw Holy Fuck when they played the Prospector in Long Beach, they succeeded at invading my ear holes from their very first toot on the melodica. I was mostly blown away by just how much stuff was on stage. It was like a hidden picture puzzle in a Highlights magazine and I was supposed to find all the things they used as instruments. I spotted a Korg and an African thumb piano—that much I knew. But then they went and fed 35mm film into some kind of sequencer that gave me one of those moments of bar room synesthesia like, “Wait…I am totally hearing the sound of celluloid right now.” Who cares if you can’t distinguish one song from another? Forgive that jam-band aspect of Holy Fuck and think of the mix as like the suicide cola you’d make at Little Caesar’s back when the most important thing in your life was walking your Gigapet. Holy Fuck has this heroic cadence to their hodge-podge sound that’s like the soundtrack to the best montages ever made. It’s no wonder they were named top three at the Glastonbury Festival this summer by NME magazine. Yay, Canada. You’ll love watching these guys do their lo-fi thing, even if you’re deaf. (CHAP)
