TUESDAY, MAY 29: The Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” is a song meant to be heard with a choir that’s a couple thousand members deep (not to mention those cheap souls that hide in the trees outside the Greek) and with a repertoire that continues to cultivate larger-than-life songs, the Arcade Fire are officially an outside kind of a band. Touring behind their second album, Neon Bible, Arcade Fire have taken their politically-tinged radio-friendly pop and added a carnival of instruments and on-stage antics. They seem to be having more fun than should be allowed for a band of their stature. At ten members strong and with a ridiculous amount of instruments ranging from mandolins and violins to a full-fledged church pipe organ, they already bring a crowd with them when they tour. With the Greek finally opening again (and safe from a different and not-so-friendly fire), there isn’t really a better way to get summer started a little early than by singing along to the kinds of choruses that instantly unite an audience in this mercifully preserved theater.
