FRIDAY, APRIL 6: I can honestly say that Devon Williams is perhaps the only performing musician in L.A. I make an effort to see whenever I get the chance—I think I’ve seen him perform about once a month for a year, and I look forward to it. It’s never boring—always magnetic. And the music is great, too. Devon writes sparkly pop songs with melodies I actually like having stuck in my head, and his back-up band, the Allen Bleyle 3, releases (or holds down—I can’t tell which) a spellbinding spark of pure rock chaos that seems to hang in the balance between complete disintegration and music that locks together so well it becomes transcendent, like double-fisting the Church and Crazy Horse. And they all tell plenty of funny jokes on stage, too. (KH)
