L.A. RECORD!

MAGNOLIA ELECTRIC COMPANY @ EL REY

April 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

TUESDAY, APRIL 3: It seems that the Magnolia Electric Co. appear in Los Angeles more often than rain these days. The last time I saw wee Jason Molina and his weathered crew, there was still sunlight cooking the smoker’s patio at the Echo. Just imagine: last call six hours after the show! Molina’s paeans to loneliness— propelled by his Crazy Horse-ish beardos—always gets the faded-t-shirt crowd shuffling in place after a long day riding their urban tractors. Aside from his frequent shows, Molina has been churning out albums almost as fast as he records them—three last year! —subjecting his warble to the heavy-handed cymbals and dirt-road blues that has defined his sound. The perfect soundtrack for catching frogs in a burlap sack by the light of the silver moon. Tasty. (SOC)

WITH SON VOLT AT THE EL REY, 5515 WILSHIRE BLVD, LOS ANGELES. 9 PM / $19 / ALL AGES. WWW.GOLDENVOICE.COM.
