TUESDAY, MARCH 20: Amy Winehouse has long been something of a sensation in the UK, having already picked up the British Female Solo Artist award before skipping over the pond to do her first ever US tour to promote her new record Back to Black. The album is a mix of different stylistic influences—hip-hop, blues, electronica, chanson—and her voice sails with control and depth throughout, a rich mezzo-soprano infused with the blues and with a slight edge to it, agile despite its richness, and capable of conveying a vast array of emotions. (said one guy who would know: Sharon Jones, not Norah Jones.) This show gives SoCal a rare opportunity to see a spectacular show in a small atmosphere. Brave the parking situation and go. This is a can’t-miss. (KB)
