THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22: The Cold War Kids have generated the kind of buzz Helen Keller would have heard about. Is it well deserved? Whether you like them or not, you can’t deny that they’re an insanely hard working band. They’ve held down weekly bi-coastal residencies in Los Angeles and New York during the same month (who the hell does that?) and have been tirelessly touring in support of their debut full length Robbers & Cowards on Downtown Records (US) and V2 (UK) since it came out last October. I haven’t heard anyone being on the fence with these guys. People either love the shit out of them and have some sort of band bromance going on, or they can’t stand them. Either way, they’ve built their own sound on a mix of spiritual howls against catchy-as-fuck guitar parts with haunted bayou undertones filling in every crack. You have to hand it to ‘em for building such an impressive empire on white-boy soul from Whittier. Supporting the CWK is Delta Spirit, who they refer to as “some guys that sleep on our floors” and Tokyo Police club for the latter part of the tour. (RR)
