I keep telling myself never to read online comment pages because they're always taken over by losers with too much free time who want to throw imaginary rocks at everything that seems genuinely impressive or exciting or positive...geezus! what is wrong with you people out there? drew, this is a smart, funny, beautiful review. it paints a vivid picture of not only the soundscape of the event (which I'm impressed that you could remember enough to pen, after becoming one with a chair and all) but the whole atmosphere. why shouldn't reviews be personal? why leave out the experience of something that strikes such deep personal chords as music does, and music festivals such as this. this was not just a show at the echo or the smell, but a portal to a fantastic and ephemeral planet of varied and interesting and consistently good sounds and good times. the fest was fantastic, and I wish I'd been there for all of it...I'm glad drew (and Daiana, in her fantastically-captioned photos) could fill me in on what I missed, and bring to life again the best moments of the weekend--hecuba rising from the mist in their incomparable sonic wonder! adventures under a full desert moon in an abandoned movie set! I, for one, had a completely magical experience, and it sounds like the author did too.

Holy cow*! If only I could stir up such controversy with my thesis... I would like to take this opportunity to publicly declare:

a) My sincere apology re: Weave! lineup error
b) One need not "have a crush" on a person or band in order to critique the performative nature of gender and/or sexuality as it influences musical performance.
c) I do not aspire to be Hunter S. Thompson, though Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 is quite an exciting and incisive critique of the American political process and mainstream media coverage thereof.
d) I love Joe Biden!
* I believe I made it clear that I am skeptical of the process by which ethnic/aesthetic traditions are consumed by popular culture, though I am quite delighted when my skepticism is challenged by sincerity, ingenuity, and self-awareness.
f/m) I prefer not to identify myself according to gender, thank you.

I agree with B. Randy. Ed sharpe was just about the worst, most boring thing i've ever seen or heard. Amanda Jo Williams was much better. Too bad no one covered The Polyamorous Affair on Sunday. They were one of the highlights of the fest for me.
