There were guys everywhere with their hair combed back and drinking beer and smiling and bumping into each other and smiling some more. Then Lucero came on and everyone was singing and putting their beers in the air. Lucero sounds the way only a band of friends touring and recording constantly for years can sound. They sang songs about green grass, trucks, girls, screen doors, guitars and fools. These are real ass dudes from Memphis sounding unlike anything else. Country/alt/punk is what I always read of them sounding like (and that’s fine) but Lucero do their own thing and I haven’t been to a show with this many people that felt this intimate in years. Let’s go get Lucero tattoos.
