Sound engineers take note: Do not fuck with the vocalist of Local H’s mic or else you might have to answer to one pissed-off frontman. After spending more than ten minutes trying to get his voice to sound just right, Scott Lucas took the stage with one bad attitude and, well, bad sound. Really, though, what do you expect coming from a guy who has been writing grunge/rock-induced albums and touring the world for more than 20 years? He knows exactly how he should sound and demands nothing less when he plays a gig with fellow band-mate Brian St. Clair, who lends a hand or two with percussion. Luckily three songs into the hour-and-a-half set, he began to lighten up. The audience was more than receptive despite the technical delays, so Scott decided to wipe that frown off his face and set forth a blazing set of Local H classics such as “Bound to the Floor” and “California Songs” to an almost sold-out crowd. Also in the mix of material were catchy songs off their new album, Twelve Angry Months, such as “24 Hour Break-Up Session” and “White Belt Boys.” Ending the night with a new and improved version of TV On The Radio’s “Wolf Like Me,” it was evident that even once you’ve grown out of your forlorn grunge days, you can still rock the stage—and even have fun with another band’s tune.
