Yeah, I don’t read “bitter man child” as a diss. I think that it’s just saying that there’s more to this album than meets the eye (or ear in this case!), which is a total compliment.

You guys have substance, not fluff, you know?

Hey, Sean, I didn’t mean to hurt anybody’s feelings. I love your band (and actually forgot to mention how great your singing was on “My Birthday Suit”)!

By “man-child” I just mean what you know is true, that his songs often wrap up adult predicaments in childlike sing-alongs. And by bitter, hey, you know Dan’s got some dark stuff buried in those songs and in himself, including laments about feeling dead inside and looking back on one’s past with something that could be described as the opposite of nostalgia–feelings I relate to as well! I like a little sour with my sweet. That’s partly why I recommended the album so much.
