No Age and Mika Miko have practically played everywhere at this point—the banks of the L.A. River, tiny liberal arts colleges—and last Sunday they added to their list, setting up at the L.A. Central Library. Mika Miko opened the performance and ended up delivering an excellent set that felt like a school assembly, complete with a security guard telling kids where and where not to stand. The library’s background gave off a sort of blissful youth, with Jennifer and Jenna, the band’s two singers, popping and snapping across the stage in all their glory. The band brushed through their set with a clean and full sound, all played with cool school girl confidence. The crowd was equally youthful, some even breaking free, unable to contain themselves at the awesome display before them. No Age had it a little tough, though, with Randy Randall unable to sing due to a throat infection. Still, the band brought out a handful of new tunes from their upcoming Nouns LP, like the new single “Eraser,” which hangs onto heavy drones and sparkling tambourines when in come the vocals like some wondrous boy’s choir raised on pure punk. Watching Dean Spunt’s drumming is almost spiritual, with arms flailing every which way as if he’s almost in compulsive trance. Despite Randall’s missing vocal presence, No Age still proved able to deliver that day without at all missing their mark.
