Due to the sass of the poor, unhappy Miss working will call, I all but missed the tail end of Jay Reatard and company’s set of high-energy, rowdy Memphis rock ‘n roll (last time I saw ‘em at Anaheim’s Doll Hut, they were full of high-flying kicks and swings!). Apparently they played to a capacity crowd of comatose college kids (reefer, but no madness?) who desperately needed a few stiff drinks to knock the uncomfortable, cross-armed stares off their young, pretty faces. By the time Akron, Ohio’s The Black Keys took the stage, a few lucky people must have gotten bipped between sets because there was actually little effort towards movement from the rest of the crowd. My night was highlighted with a mid-set interval of Dan pounding on an over-driven Fender Rhodes to my fuzzy delight. Warner Bros. bus + Star Trek technology + dark chocolate M&Ms = Punk Points!?
