It took awhile, but the definition of “all hell will break loose” has invariably been changed to “Liars are back in town.” Like to add some nutrition? Stir in madcap duo No Age to the already boisterous mix and you’ll have yourself a recipe for hell breaking loose in a Jaeger corral. Noise-rock native trio Liars have come a long way, baby: channel your thoughts back to 2001 and focus on an itty-bitty album called They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top, then fast forward three more years to when the previously four-piece outfit had without due consideration converted to a three-piece and recorded a second album (They Were Wrong, So We Drowned) that scared the living shit out of every heart in America. What was the problem, you ask? Oh, not much… they’d just locked themselves in a cabin in Jersey for a month to record some lascivious variation of the Salem Witch Trials slapped together with Henry David Thoreau. And we wondered why it took another four years before they hit the studio… Skip through 2006′s Drum’s Not Dead and here we are, with the band’s self-titled fourth album released last summer on Mute Records–the epitome of 21st century noise-punk and experimentation, all mashed together with a good heap of that scary energy that keeps Liars on top of the pile.
