TUESDAY, DEC. 11
There’s nothing like catching a good buzz for a great cause and this year’s Rock to Roll benefit show delivered yet again. Joe Sib made it happen, but the California youth made it a success. Dead to Me took the stage first, proving the irony in their name as they generated the feeling you get after listening to their teenage pop. The rest of the night started with a bang as the Bouncing Souls jarred the room by launching into ‘Hopeless Romantic.’ Covering crowd pleasers from just about every one of their records including a rare ‘Moon Over Asbury’ instrumental, they set an intimate atmosphere in the room between boisterous soccer chants of solidarity. Punk Rock Karaoke didn’t waste a moment firing raw classics at a tommy-gun pace with notable highlights going to Jim from Pennywise howling ‘Nervous Breakdown’ and Mike McClogan nailing ‘White Riot.’ Bar tabs jumped up another fifty bucks at the green light serenades of Flogging Molly and with a new tunes off their upcoming release recorded in Ireland, they proceeded to pour out the old hits to slurring waves of scaly caps. With all proceeds going directly to Wheels for Humanity, the show brought out the best in everyone who braved the cold streets of Hollywood, if only for one night. (BBA)
