THURSDAY, NOV. 6:

British singer-songwriter Wreckless Eric comes to from a time and place when no meant yes and yes meant fuck off, mate—from the original Stiff Records crowd (Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello, and Ian Dury) without a care in the world. For the Monkees covering his music? No, not even sorry. As far as he’s concerned, this was no skin off his back. For his less-than-famous fancy for drink? Nope, not even a peep. Falling over was his forte, but ‘forgive me’ is for the meek. Giving the singer momentum was his hit single ‘Whole Wide World’ (featuring Lowe on bass and Dury on drums). The song pushed Eric into the Top 50 UK charts within weeks of its 1978 record release, and he hasn’t looked back since. The song was recently featured in smash-shit comedy Stranger Than Fiction, with Will Ferrell on guitar and Maggie Gyllenhaal on Will. Twenty years later, the musician has released over ten full-length albums. He never went to Tahiti—his found his true love (Amy Rigby) in Paris, France, and now he’s touring with her. (JG)
