SATURDAY, NOV. 17:

I wanted to see Fear, but I didn’t want to get spit on and I definitely didn’t want dude sweat rubbed all over me. So many reunion shows I have seen have been huge disappointments, but I don’t think I liked any of those bands as much as I like Fear. Getting in free for writing this made me ultimately decide to go, and I’m glad I did. Lee Ving was as arrogant as ever, but sounded like he’s been practicing. I could never get into moshing as it just felt macho and reminiscent of clubs, but that could just be my excuse since I’m so goddam skinny. This pit also seemed a lot more supportive of each other than other ones I had seen (TSOL and Bad Religion in Hollywood a few years ago come to mind). I also can’t get into buying expensive beer and throwing it at the band. I guess that’s the full experience of a Fear show, and I should just be glad it was someone else paying for these beers that were being spilled on my socks. As Mitch Clem once put it, “Love them or hate them, they sure do have a lot of songs about beer”. (WC)
