FRIDAY, SEPT. 28:

I was stuck in the “on” position, feeling like I was seeing too much outside of myself and couldn’t let things just be. From out in the alley I could hear Terrors start to perform, and so into the crush of bodies I went, nearly unable to breathe. It felt like time to cry or sit down—or hear an incredibly sympathetic, sad-yet-somehow hopeful song like my favorite off of Angeleno Dread, “Femme Harem,” which has a simple, stuttering acoustic line beneath Elijah’s admissions of childish affection for a girl who seems to be “collecting a stable of young men…[cos] it is as though [she] is unsure of [herself] without their hands on [her].” My breath stayed caught. Maybe I’ll ask him to play it live when he returns from a month-long tour as Horses’ new bassist and moves into Château Boylston. (SS)
