FRIDAY, APRIL 20: Disregard any recordings you’ve heard from these boys—they’re impressive, but not of very good quality. Siamese Guns, however, is a must-see live act. These four young’uns wandering the dreary land of the garage band have a sound far too old for their bodies. The vocals are nothing I’ve heard before, and the guitars are an unyielding force, full of distortion. Nothing was overpowering, but nothing was subtle. It was deliberately uniform, akin to pulse and heart rate, and somehow earthy and netherwordly at the same time. I really don’t know quite how they’ve done it. There was crazy dancing and a pit that seemed ill-fitting for their sound, but nevertheless, there was a message, and it was that a live act is just that: a live act. In needs an answer from the audience to properly communicate, and too often bands’ attempts at communication are one-way only. On Friday at No Future, though, you could feel a living, breathing, biting connection. (LA)
