I can report Karen O. has matured into one of this-minute rock’s most affecting performers- a life-battered, kohl-eyed waif with an almost frightening emotional range in her cooing and choked syllables. They had the audience with them all the way, from the rambunctious opening through a confetti snowstorm to the coup de theatre at the end when the giant floating eyeballs were let loose.

SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL 2009 RECAP
September 23rd, 2009 · No Comments
I am happy to say that Ozzy is still fucking awesome! He opened his one-hour set with an energized version of “I Don’t Know,” and he looked fit and happy, and his vocals sounded great. He played a few Sabbath classics like “War Pigs” and “Paranoid” and a bunch of his solo favorites. He hosed the crowd down several times with foam fire retardant. I got nailed, and I was a good 20 yards away. I saw one dude perched in a tree yell to his friend who was standing next to me that this show was his personal rock and roll moment, just as Ozzy nailed him square in the face with the foam like he was an anarchist at a WTO rally.
WEREWOLF ART EXHIBIT @ 4300 LOFT
September 22nd, 2009 · 6 Comments
Werewolf Art Exhibit is a traveling gallery that showcases the art and performances of some of the most exciting up and coming artists and bands in L.A. Tonight’s edition brought an impressive turnout to the 4300 Loft in Baldwin Hills. It was nice to see an event like this go off so well outside the stronghold of the downtown loft party scene, miraculously leaving much of the downtown snobbery behind.
NEW WEIRD AMERICA FESTIVAL @ NOMAD GALLERY

The rise of this kind of all-day indie sockhop is proof L.A.’s warehouses aren’t just for freight, psytrance and the odd orgy anymore. The Nomad Gallery Art Compound, a friendly art-bunker wedged deep in untrendy Frogtown, embraced the underground party set’s chill equation of art + music + abandoned industrial space = fuck the Sunset Strip with July 4th’s raucous “New Weird America” Festival.
