Coming down the stairs of the Troubadour and facing a sold-out crowd is beginning to be standard procedure for this group, whose buzz has been steadily climbing in the right direction after releasing 2 of the better records from the last 2 years.

THE GREENHORNES @ THE TROUBADOUR
December 13th, 2010 · No Comments
Aficionados of The Racontuers and Dead Weather know full well who The Greenhornes are. Off and on since 1999, Craig Fox (lead vox, guitar), “Little” Jack Lawrence (bass, vox), and the man who had his drum kit front and center stage for a good reason, Patrick Keeler (drum master, vox) brought fans and other fellow [...]
FOOL’S GOLD + RAINBOW ARABIA + WALLPAPER @ TROUBADOUR
October 21st, 2010 · No Comments
Fool’s Gold Sometimes lineups are not at all straightforward. Such was the case with the triple bill of Rainbow Arabia, Wallpaper, and Fools Gold. Married locals Danny and Tiffany Preston of Rainbow Arabia started the evening with their earnest and synth-heavy world music. Their strangely beautiful music was so reminiscent of a paired-down Viva K [...]
KLAXONS @ THE TROUBADOUR

The Klaxon’s British invasion completely destroyed anyone standing in the packed house at The Troubadour. The London lads had the crowd in a frenzy with tunes from Surfing the Void and Myths of the Near Future. Jamie Reynolds, James Righton, Simon Taylor-Davies, and Steffan Halperin gave 110% and definitely felt the love from LA. Here’s [...]
LISSIE @ THE TROUBADOUR
October 12th, 2010 · No Comments
Hearing the first few chords initiated a number of screams based in the pure satisfaction of finally getting to hear “that” song live. With Lissie overseas for the majority of the year, this was just the 2nd US show since the release of her fantastic album. People were excited, and I don’t blame them, as there was plenty to be excited about.
FOOL’S GOLD @ THE TROUBADOUR

It was interesting to see them take the stage this night—their first local headlining show in almost a year—and look a little nervous? A subtle but apparent pressure was on for a band that almost had to prove themselves all over again to a hometown crowd that helped make them. They eased and oozed right into it though.

photography by Debi Del Grande Bristol’s finest Geoff Barrow (Portishead), Matt Williams (Team Brick) and Billy Fuller (Fuzz Against Junk) made their last stop on their short U.S. tour at The Troubadour. The minimalistic set up exposed haunting vocals and precise rhythms that didn’t need fluff. The different styles of each artist came together [...]
WILD BEASTS @ THE TROUBADOUR (COMIC STRIP REVIEW!)
February 17th, 2010 · 1 Comment
Wild Beasts kicked off the first date of their North American tour, as well as their first-ever Los Angeles show, with a brilliant version of “The Fun Powder Plot”, followed by latest single “We Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues”, never straying too far from the recorded versions. “All The King’s Men” elicited the most hooting and howling (geddit, Beast-watchers?) of the night… and, hands up, it is a really good song.
WHITE DENIM @ THE TROUBADOUR

It’s no wonder people don’t know what to say about White Denim—it took me about 20 minutes to figure out what was going on after they took stage. But here’s my theory: right before the show, they said to each other, “I know! Let’s each drink a gallon of iced tea super fast and then get through as many of our songs as fast as we can without stopping until urine itself is dripping from our pores!”
