The guys and girl of Warner Drive are always fun to see rock an intimate venue like The Roxy. Its audience seems to be one of all ages and demographics, but from age 10 to 35, they all knew the words and joined in. I spoke with the band before the show and it was thrilled to [...]

Reunited and it feels and sounds so good. Mick Jones, Don Letts, Dan Donovan, Leo Williams, Greg Roberts are back together as Big Audio Dynamite (B.A.D.) and performed a gig at the intimate Roxy for the lucky few that snatched up tickets. The energy in the room was electric and the band is as tight [...]

CAREFUL @ THE ROXY (INCLUDES ERIC LINDLEY INTERVIEW!)
January 24th, 2011 · No Comments
Like an overcast Sunday or a poorly-timed stiff drink or the process of filling out the paperwork for a loved one’s emergency orotracheal intubation, Eric Lindley’s songs have the power to infuse the stretch of time they occupy with a sadness that’s incidental but devastating. He sings with a hushed, almost guarded apprehension, as though he’s trying to keep from bothering someone.
SIERRA LEONE’S REFUGEE ALL STARS @ THE ROXY
May 25th, 2010 · No Comments
The Refugee All Stars laid elements of all of those different genres out in front of us and traded instruments and microphones in a manner that seemed less choreographed and more driven by the immediate feelings of the performers, who exuded tremendous delight as they shimmied and caterwauled to an audience that was full of the spirit and ready to dance from the moment that the band walked into the Roxy.

ICARUS LINE @ THE ROXY
March 2nd, 2010 · 2 Comments
photography by Ward Robinson The Icarus Line brought people West, way West, to The Roxy on February 25th. It can be weird being on the Sunset strip. right in the middle of the audience was a woman with an unfortunate boob job and a cowboy hat and outside the sidewalks were scattered with leopard and [...]
SAINT MOTEL @ THE ROXY
February 19th, 2010 · 1 Comment
Saint Motel was a fun gig. Their music feels fresh, like poppy seed indie rock and roll with a tenderness towards celery and cucumbers. And then some hot soup. And then a strange hand formed caffeinated cracker that you eat without remembering to chew.
RUMSPRINGA @ THE ROXY

Today’s answer to rock, Rumspringa channels the roots of the genre and bring pride back to the electric guitar. Stevens and de la Vega have such command of the stage and their instruments that you get lost in their natural talent. Stevens creates multiple melodies using Little Lupe, a memory pedal that makes Rumspringa’s intricacies possible. As for de la Vega’s vigorous and acute drumming, I’ll just assume that while on stage, he grows six arms to take complete charge and keep up with Stevens’ quick-fingered guitar playing.
