THE GOLDBERG SISTERS: YOU WERE JUST DIANE KEATON
May 9th, 2011 · 2 Comments
Actor Adam Goldberg, most famous for getting stabbed by a Nazi in Saving Private Ryan, proved with 2009’s LANDy that he can make an album as good or better than what most kids in Echo Park do all day. With the Goldberg Sisters, he and a slightly-solid lineup of musical recruits have woven together an intricate album that puts a psychedelic sheen across the treble-timbered sounds of the 70s. This interview by Dan Collins.
THE MELVINS: JUDGE ME BY MY ENEMIES
January 27th, 2011 · 2 Comments
After years and years of increasing conceptual density, the Melvins attached Coady and Jared from Big Business and multiplied themselves into the band most likely to last forever, or at least to match the half-life of the most persistent radioactive isotopes. Their newest, The Bride Screamed Murder, is one of their best, and they are installed at Spaceland (with a schedule revisiting their most significant releases) for all of January. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
BOMBÓN: CALL US BACK, QUENTIN!

They just returned from their first tour of the South with Pine Hill Haints and Rise Up Howling Werewolf. They speak now from the Liquid Kitty in matching sailor dresses. They are patiently waiting for their phone call from Quentin Tarantino. This interview by Lainna Fader.

LESLIE AND THE BADGERS: WE’RE ARMED TO THE TEETH
September 28th, 2009 · No Comments
Leslie and the Badgers recorded their album while Los Angeles was on fire and began their residency at the Echo as the ash finally started to dissipate. Producer David Bianco let them use Bob Dylan’s microphone and they meet now for beers at Cole’s, where they would have fit perfectly opening for I See Hawks In L.A. not too long ago. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
WATTS ENSEMBLE: IF WE ALL GOT MOHAWKS
August 10th, 2009 · No Comments
Jail Weddings drummer Brian Watson started the 13-piece cinematic jazz band Watts Ensemble after one of those wouldn’t-it-be-cool-if? barstool conversations that almost never go anywhere. With no formal compositional training, he brute-forced the music from his mind and assembled a band out of professional musicians captured on Craigslist. Their first album Crime & Time is out now. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
