MICHAEL NHAT: MICHAEL NHAT
December 6th, 2009 · 5 Comments
Michael Nhat’s debut LP sounds more Angelino than Vietnamese, with humorous non-sequiturs, pent-up hostilities, portraits of hipster chicks, and admonitions about werewolves rapped and sung over tracks that sound like they were sampled right out of the air in Filipinotown or the less gentrified parts of Echo Park.
MICHAEL NHAT RECORD RELEASE @ VERMONT HOUSE

Fuck, this dude is a total hip-hop star! He was about to start the show when he realized that he’d left his beats outside, so there was this five minute stretch of time where everyone in the hallway was chanting “Michael Nhat! Michael Nhat!” Kyle from Narwhal Party hyped the crowd while we waited, asking us about our drug preferences (“Do you like shrooms?!” “YEAH!!!” “Do you like to shoot heroin?!” “YEAH!!!”), and eventually Nhat got there with his jams and started
bumping them.

WEREWOLF ART EXHIBIT @ 4300 LOFT
September 22nd, 2009 · 6 Comments
Werewolf Art Exhibit is a traveling gallery that showcases the art and performances of some of the most exciting up and coming artists and bands in L.A. Tonight’s edition brought an impressive turnout to the 4300 Loft in Baldwin Hills. It was nice to see an event like this go off so well outside the stronghold of the downtown loft party scene, miraculously leaving much of the downtown snobbery behind.
MICHAEL NHAT + FORMER GHOSTS + QUANGSTUH

The set starts with a diminutive twentysomething, dressed crisply in a black pullover and white button-down, sitting in a chair with his head slightly bowed. Newcomers probably don’t know what to expect, but Nhat fans can bank on a saucy, effervescent performance. They are not let down. Anywhere Michael Nhat plays is a party, and Friday night, in the echoey back room of The Smell with an audience of about fifteen, is no exception.
