This video is one of the coolest things ever. EVER! Don’t disagree. Disregard your preconceptions about men with spray tans and no body hair, and allow yourself to marvel at the wonders of the human form’s power without prejudice. Hecuba sent us the above video for El Perro Del Mar’s song “Change Of Heart.” They’re [...]

Even in a jumpsuit with enough pockets for the apocalypse, no one is fully equipped for this weekend. People will lose flutes in teepees and see alligators in guitar-neck shadows chomping on the heads of musicians; and emerge from Pioneertown alleys on Sunday morning without pants.

Finding the teepee involved receiving intentionally vague directions from two groups of kids, navigating a sudden neighborhood with way too many lawn ornaments, and sneaking into someone’s backyard via a labyrinthine system of wooden gates I opened by tugging on bits of fishing wire tied into little loops. Inside the teepee we found Matt as well as Ed Sharpe (“Has anyone seen my metal flute?!! Who took my magical flute?!”) and a pack of orgasmic chickies in face paint.

On the night of the show, Perhacs greeted Redcat smiling. “In the spirit of the ‘70s, we’re going to have a very special night,” she said, smoothing her purple dress. For the first performance ever of her music, her 1970 album Parallelograms was presented in its entirety by Dublab-selected guest bands.

Linda Perhacs sees colors. The psychedelic nature of reality follows her around and tugs at her pant leg for attention. On Parallelograms, her psychedelic gem from 1970, she captured the waveforms of color through sound, and now she’s been called back to REDCAT with Dublab and some of the most wonderful weirdos making music today—for her first live performance ever. This interview by Daiana Feuer.

When Tim “Terrorbird” said there’d be new Rainbow Arabia songs and new Hecuba haircuts at this show, I blushed, “Hecuba Haircuts?!!” —Wow, a lot of them hairs was snipped. No bodysuit (Jerry) or wife beater (Tom) on these bods tonight. Instead, closed collar black long-sleeve shirts and matching sweatshop slippers, a lack of facial hair not framing some wide-open blue orbs—the prison camp high fashion twins thing going on can only be a metaphor for the great suffering of love for art. Or art for love. Or sacrifice inverting beauty and dang. No-eyebrow minimalism, I must agree.
