Waterhouse has been on this planet for a mere 25 years but his homage to vintage soul feels like that of a lively octogenarian. This, indeed, was a happy nerd gathering of all things retro.

It’s been long known that I have a soft spot for dance music played by a live band- well, I mean, I’ve long known that I have a soft spot for dance music played by a live band, I don’t know what you think about it… Staged at the intimate-meets-ornate setting that is the Eagle [...]
TY SEGALL + TIJUANA PANTHERS + AUDACITY @ EAGLE ROCK CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Pairing three great garage bands who should play together ALL THE TIME turned out to be as great in practice as it was in theory. Gorgeous vocals and a [...]

Daylong kicked it off with an audience seeming mostly unfamiliar, with this Lavender Diamond side project. They’re heavily new wave, and their love for music is both audible and visible [...]

I didn’t necessarily expect people to mosh for The Strange Boys, since their music is more dance-inducing than violence-worthy. But they moshed indeed, and my knees are so bruised up from being pushed against the stage that even the touch of my sheets to my skin hurts like hell.

If there’s one thing I trust, it’s a lady in a dress and sneakers. The combination says I am a soft flower but I’m ready to leap from here to there as needed, I will save you. Plus Coco’s beautiful voice is like a net of butterflies catching our fall from the fire. Accompanied by [...]
