COACHELLA DAY 2: BOMBA ESTEREO + HERE WE GO MAGIC + GOGOL BORDELLO + ERYKAH BADU + JENNY AND JOHNNY + WIRE + BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE + SUEDE + RAPHAEL SAADIQ + DAEDELUS
April 28th, 2011 · No Comments
Day Two of Coachella is like a second tour of duty: by now you know where the ATM is, where the good snacks are, and how to get in the checkpoint line that has the most gullible security guard. And parking is easier, because half the cars have been safely lodged in a campsite zone the night before.
MY DRY WET MESS: GOOD TO HAVE A FRESH START
April 28th, 2011 · 1 Comment
My Dry Wet Mess makes beats in Barcelona that sound like they come from L.A. and it all started with an Atari and MPC given to him by his father, a bass player in Ennio Morricone’s orchestra. He speaks now from his parents’ house after Christmas about why everything is difficult for him, his inability to get a visa, and his affinity for twisting pop songs and mashing them with noises from unidentifiable sources. This interview by Lainna Fader
DAEDELUS: ALL OF MUSIC IS A FAILURE
April 21st, 2011 · 1 Comment
Daedelus is a perfect Victorian gentleman who makes beautiful records about wars no one cares about and the virtues of handmade clothing. 2011 marks ten years of his recording, celebrated now with the release of his latest Bespoke, as well as a third Magical Properties tour, and shows at SXSW and Coachella. This is truly his year, as it should be. He speaks now about this world’s many failings and the oncoming alien battle we’re all going to face. This interview by Lainna Fader.
DAEDELUS: BESPOKE
April 6th, 2011 · No Comments
This is an incredibly sophisticated and accessible record—commercial, but in a Brian Wilson kinda way. It takes colossal experience and skill to make something that sounds this effortless and natural. Bespoke is a high-point of Daedelus’ discography—fans will find the sounds they know and love, but this is the record that’ll open the minds of new listeners worldwide.

MY DRY WET MESS: IRRATIONAL ALPHABET
January 25th, 2011 · No Comments
With pulsing bass, broken hip-hop rhythms, soulful and subtle vocal synths, and an unwavering Kraftwerk-esque drum machine, Irrational Alphabet is equal parts beat and melody from a world somewhere between the L.A. beat scene and the London dubstep scene.
L.A. RECORD ASSOC. PUBLISHER LAINNA FADER’S TOP 25 RECORDS OF 2010 (UPDATED w/ VIDEOS)
December 31st, 2010 · 1 Comment
I’m generally not a fan of top x album of the year lists (cause the ones I see on other blogs ignore the massive amount of incredible releases on small labels as well as awesome self-released records) but I decided to do one anyway. Lots of beats and garage rock and most of them are [...]
