Chicano Batman’s debut record draws influences from some of South and Central America’s greatest musicians. While tunes like “Día Do Sol” and “Lembrancinha” evoke the smooth artistry of the Tropicalismo movement’s Caetano Veloso, the one-two tempo and one-and-five basslines of “La Manzanita” are reminiscent of Los Tigres del Norte-style Norteño, complete with gritos méxicanos and an organ-turned-accordion.
