Le Spec Gallery, a large 2,000 square foot structure with a great potential for growth, is opening Saturday night with live painted models by the artists featured in the show, including L.A. RECORD illustrator, Champoy Hate. She spoke with me about her goals in creating a space that interacts with the local community, and focuses on empowering artists and giving them a fair deal. The Ariel Pink of L.A. indie hip hop has a second album, Swimming to Cambodia, coming out August 31, 2010. “Pay Me and I’ll Tell you” offers a taste in a noirish video conceived by Champoy Hate, and starring Michael Nhat alongside a gal we often see in his videos named Lis Bomb. Michael offers an OCD play by play: “We shot this video before we even knew what song it was for. Champ asked me a day or two before if he could do a video downtown with me and Lis.
