Bands from three continents came together Saturday night at The Bootleg Theatre. British rockers Tribes headlined and played some tunes from their soon-to-be-released album Baby. Lo-fi garage punkers Bleeding Knees Club had a few fans in front who wanted to mosh, but the rest of the crowd wasn’t having it. Although locals Army/Navy haven’t played [...]

POLICA @ THE BOOTLEG THEATRE
February 27th, 2012 · 1 Comment
Last week Polica, along with Pollyn and The One AM Radio provided an amazing night of music for those in attendance at the Bootleg Theatre. The crowd was buzzing from excitement by the time Polica came on little after 11pm with two drummers, a bassist, and the beautiful Channy Leanagh. Channy spent most of the night [...]
THE GOLDBERG SISTERS: YOU WERE JUST DIANE KEATON
May 9th, 2011 · 2 Comments
Actor Adam Goldberg, most famous for getting stabbed by a Nazi in Saving Private Ryan, proved with 2009’s LANDy that he can make an album as good or better than what most kids in Echo Park do all day. With the Goldberg Sisters, he and a slightly-solid lineup of musical recruits have woven together an intricate album that puts a psychedelic sheen across the treble-timbered sounds of the 70s. This interview by Dan Collins.
GLASSER: SMEGMA FROM PLANET GLASSER
April 23rd, 2010 · 3 Comments
Glasser is usually Cameron Mesirow and the digitized voices of 30,000 celestial entities, but now she returns from an extended trip to Europe with Fever Ray (and more) producers Van Rivers and the Subliminal Kid as collaborators and—for tonight only in L.A.!—as her backing band. This interview by Chris Ziegler.
FIELD MUSIC @ BOOTLEG THEATER
March 30th, 2010 · No Comments
When Field Music came on stage somewhere close to midnight, they brought the place to life. Theirs is crisp, clean type of rock, but its tricky time signatures and shifts give it a sort of off-kilter liveliness.

THE ENTRANCE BAND @ BOOTLEG
February 24th, 2010 · 7 Comments
photography by Ward Robinson I’ve seen The Entrance Band before, and they are really good. A power trio full of the jammy heaviosity of early Blue Cheer, but modern, nimble, sexual. This show was different, though. This show was special. This was a real rock and roll show, a brilliant gut wrenching pagan festival. Bootleg [...]
HE'S MY BROTHER SHE'S MY SISTER @ BOOTLEG
February 24th, 2010 · 1 Comment
photography by Daiana Feuer He’s My Brother She’s My Sister is like a time warp to the golden present, wrapping nostalgia around the here and now with throwback flair and good taste. They make debauchery and estrangement so glamorous. The songs are as catchy as a radio pop jam, but throw off the trappings of [...]
LYMBYC SYSTYM @ BOOTLEG THEATER
January 13th, 2010 · No Comments
Lymbyc System is made up of Tempe-born brothers Jared and Michael Bell. Although three years apart, the two wander the venue looking like twins. Unassuming as all’s hell, they hang out with the crowd during Helios one-man-band opening set, and sell their own merch after the gig is up. Never one bit of attitude or cocky glare to remind you that, “Hey, bro’, we toured Japan.”
