FEATHERBEARD + ADANOWSKY + LAS CAFETERAS + HE’S MY BROTHER SHE’S MY SISTER + AMANDA JO WILLIAMS @ BOOTLEG THEATER

Usually a five band bill is a lot to digest but the theme of the night kept everyone entertained. Updated styles of American and Latin folk brought a diverse crowd together. Knowing how hard it is to put a show together I was really thankful for this wonderful night out.

JAVELIN + MAUS HAUS + 60 WATT KID @ BOOTLEG THEATER
April 30th, 2010 · 2 Comments
Javelin brings sounds of familiarity, something you would find blasting out a car window along a main drag of Whittier Blvd or the most eastern park of Sunset. This feeling made the audience comfortable enough to dance and sway together in a converted warehouse off Beverly Blvd. full of strangers, as we imagined the sun hitting our shoulders.

Timothy—yes he plays keys for both Astra Heights and Lemon Sun!—took a moment to thank the crowd, “It took [Astra Heights] a year to make [Ship of Theseus] and this is the most beautiful sight we could ask for so everybody dance your fuckin’ asses off and thanks for coming!”

MIMICKING BIRDS, LAMPS, + TREMELLOW @ BOOTLEG THEATER
October 9th, 2009 · 4 Comments
Reminiscent of the shoegaze bands from the eighties at times, but fresh enough to bring some flair to the table, Tremellow played a strong set with a lot of energy regardless of the small crowd. This was lost however on the neighborhood, and their set was concluded when the Bootleg Theater was closed by two uniformed police officers due to sound—which was a first, according to the bartender Ben, who later asked for a CD.
CASS MCCOMBS @ BOOTLEG THEATER

The man and his ace band sounded close—but not too close—to perfect as they crackled through clever, dark pop and country drifters from his now-sizable catalog, the new entry being the understated, elegant Catacombs. Styled a bit like Kenny Chesney with his sleeveless shirt and blue jeans, McCombs struck an odd balance between cool detachment and old-school showmanship.
